Prisons Nurse Band 5
Service Users:
Service Users in Prisons and other Secure Settings.
Job Summary
Responsible for the delivery of care to prisoners who require nursing support within a range of healthcare activities. These may include Outpatients, Inpatients, Primary Care and Chronic Disease Management, Mental Health Services:
• Assesses patients, plans and implements care in prison
• Provides advice and maintains associated records
• Carries out nursing procedures
• May provide clinical supervision to other staff, students
• Works within an interdisciplinary team to deliver quality care with an emphasis on promoting independence and rehabilitation as well as curative care
• Works within codes of practice and professional guidelines. Work is managed rather than supervised
Training / Qualifications / Knowledge
Registered on the appropriate part of the NMC register for the assignment RN (Adult) / RN1/ RN2 OR RN (Mental Health ) RN3, RN4
Experience
Current (within last 6 months) evidence based practice within a primary care field appropriate to the assignment. If newly qualified (within the last year) – evidence that a preceptorship programme has been completed successfully
