Service Users:

Women, babies and their families. 

 

Job Summary:

Assesses the full range of care needs and develops, implements and evaluates programmes of care throughout the ante-natal, intra-partum and post-natal period for women and their babies

Provides a full range of health education and social care advice to women in a range of settings pre-conceptually, ante-natally and post natally May provide specialist midwifery care for a specific group of women Shares specialist knowledge with other groups/ agencies

Responsible for day to day management of a defined area or section of the service e.g. antenatal, obstetric theatre, community

Acts as a mentor for less experienced midwives and other staff

Works autonomously within NMC midwives rules & standards, other NMC guidelines, statutory supervision and spheres of professional practice. 

 

Training / Qualifications / Knowledge:

RM Registered Midwife, active NMC registration. Evidence of continued professional development (by an up to date personal professional portfolio). Must have undertaken a minimum of 35 hours of learning activity relevant to her/his practice during the 3 year period prior to the renewal of registration. Adult and neonatal resuscitation training and training/skills drills in obstetric emergencies. Professional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by specialist clinical / managerial training as appropriate for the assignment

 

Desirable Criteria: ENB 997 or equivalent Advanced Life Support in ObstetricsFamily Planning Certificate. 

 

 

Experience:

Minimum of four years post registration experience. At least 2 years experience within the field of assignment. Current (within last 6 months) evidence based practice. Evidence of applying current research to practice. Provision of midwifery care to women with normal and complicated pregnancies. Evidence of experience and study in area of expertise.

 

Desirable Criteria:

Theatre experience Home birth experience.
